History and origins
The area of Zevio has been inhabited since ancient times thanks to its favourable position along the Adige, which has always provided water for irrigation and routes for trade. Peach growing in this area has roots that, according to tradition, go back to Roman times: Pliny the Elder already mentioned the fruit grown around Verona, and a peach even appears in a work by Andrea Mantegna in the Basilica of San Zeno in Verona. Over the centuries the town developed as an independent agricultural centre, keeping this vocation to the present day.
What to see
Zevio retains a historic centre with a distinctly rural character, with parish churches dotting the main town and its hamlets, and a number of historic farm courtyards that bear witness to the agricultural economy of the area. It is a town to visit in the right spirit: less for a single monument than for the whole of an intact rural landscape made up of farmhouses, riverbanks and orchard rows.
Nature and surroundings
The Adige is the dominant natural feature of the area: its embankments offer flat paths suited to walking and cycling, with views over cultivated fields and, on clearer days, the first hills in the distance. It is a farming landscape of the plain, orderly and productive, very different from the hilly areas of the Verona countryside but just as representative of the territory's identity.
Food, wine and local produce
The area's signature product is the Pesca di Verona, today recognised with Protected Geographical Indication status, and the municipality of Zevio falls within its official production zone. Alongside fruit growing, local agriculture also produces cereals, vegetables and other typical goods of the Verona plain, the basis of a simple, seasonal cuisine.
Events and traditions
Community life in Zevio follows the typical calendar of Veneto's farming towns, with patronal festivals in the main centre and its hamlets and events dedicated to local produce, particularly the peach harvest in the summer months. These are simple but heartfelt occasions that mark the rhythm of the community's year.
Getting there
Zevio lies about fifteen kilometres south east of Verona, easily reached by car along the provincial roads that connect the city to the plain towards Legnago. Its proximity to Verona makes it a possible stop for anyone wanting to step away from the historic city centre for a few hours and into the countryside.

The economy of Zevio remains based on agriculture, particularly fruit growing, alongside small craft and commercial businesses serving a territory spread across several hamlets. It is a hard working town, its population rooted in fieldwork and the management of family run farms, a trait common to many towns of the Verona plain.
