A village on the Predaia plateau
Coredo lies in the Val di Non, in western Trentino, on a sunny plateau known as the Predaia plateau. Since 2015 the former municipality, together with other hamlets, has become part of the municipality of Predaia, though Coredo retains its own identity as the plateau's reference hub. Perched between the valley floor and mountain woodland, its position offers wide views over the valley and a pleasant climate in both summer and winter, supporting tourism throughout the year.
History and Anaunia origins
Coredo's origins are rooted in the history of the Val di Non, an Anaunia land inhabited since pre-Roman times and later shaped by the prince-bishopric of Trento. Like many plateau villages, Coredo grew around a rural economy of livestock, farming and woodland use, keeping a strong bond with its land over the centuries. Traces of this past are still visible today in the village layout, its rural buildings and the plateau's place names.
Lakes, plateau and orchards
The most distinctive feature of Coredo's surroundings are Lake Coredo and Lake Tavon, two bodies of water set in the greenery of the Predaia plateau and framed by meadows and conifer woods. Around Coredo stretch the apple orchards of the Val di Non, home to the area's renowned apple, which in spring cover the landscape in white and pink blossom. The mix of lakes, orchards and forest makes the plateau a varied natural setting, valued for its clean air and quiet, away from the busiest tourist routes.
Things to do: lakes and excursions
The Coredo plateau is suited to walks and hikes of every level, with trails skirting Lake Coredo and Lake Tavon and winding into the woods of Predaia, ideal for birdwatching and family walks. From here it is possible to reach the San Romedio sanctuary, perched on a rocky spur and one of Trentino's most striking pilgrimage sites. In winter the plateau instead offers cross-country ski trails and snowshoe routes through the snow.
Flavours and traditions of Val di Non
Coredo's table tells the story of Anaunia's rural culture: the Val di Non apple takes centre stage in cakes, strudel and preserves, while mountain-pasture cheeses, honey and local cured meats round out the plateau's food offering. Village festivals tied to the seasonal cycle, from apple blossom to the autumn harvest, still mark community life today and give visitors an authentic way to experience Predaia's traditions.
