A village at the heart of the Tesino
Cinte Tesino lies on the Tesino plateau, in the eastern Valsugana, alongside the villages of Castello Tesino and Pieve Tesino. It is a small mountain village set among meadows and woods, at an altitude that keeps the air fresh even in high summer. Its position, away from the main tourist routes, makes it a quiet starting point for exploring the eastern Valsugana, the slopes of the Lagorai range and the valley carved by the Grigno stream, preserving an authentic alpine atmosphere.
History and the tradition of the itinerant print-sellers
The Tesino area, of which Cinte is part, is historically known for the tradition of itinerant printers and sellers of sacred images and popular prints, known as perghèmeri, who from the 18th century onward set out from the plateau's villages to sell their engravings across Europe, also bringing back news and novelties from the outside world. This itinerant trade deeply shaped the identity of the Tesino communities, leaving a legacy that is retold today in museums and cultural initiatives dedicated to this unusual figure of the travelling print-seller.
Nature between the Grigno valley and the Lagorai
The land around Cinte Tesino overlooks the Grigno stream valley, which flows through a spectacular gorge between rock walls and dense woods before descending toward the Valsugana. Behind the village, pastures and forests climb toward the foothills of the Lagorai, a wild range of volcanic origin, and toward the Cima d'Asta massif, the highest peak in the area. This mid-mountain environment, rich in springs and clearings, is the defining feature of the Tesino landscape.
What to do: hiking and outdoor life
Cinte Tesino is a good base for hiking enthusiasts: trails starting from the village lead up to high-altitude pastures, Lagorai mountain huts and scenic viewpoints over the Grigno gorge. In winter the plateau is suited to snowshoeing and cross-country skiing along tracks through the woods. In summer, days that stay cooler than the valley floor attract visitors looking for gentle walks, mountain biking on forest roads and simple moments of relaxation surrounded by nature, away from the busiest tourist routes.
Mountain flavours and traditions
The cuisine of Cinte Tesino has its roots in the mountain farming tradition of eastern Trentino: alpine dairy cheeses, local cured meats, mushrooms gathered in the Lagorai woods, and dishes based on potatoes and polenta make up the typical table. Canederli dumplings and hearty dishes suited to a day of hiking are also common. Village life still follows the rhythm of the seasons, with local festivals celebrating alpine pasture products and keeping alive the memory of the plateau's farming culture.
