Introduction and location
San Vincenzo lies on the Tyrrhenian coast of the province of Livorno, in Tuscany, along the stretch known as the Etruscan Coast, roughly halfway between Livorno and Piombino. The municipal territory belongs to the Val di Cornia area, a district combining coastal plains, wooded hills and one of the region's most appreciated sandy shorelines. Established as an independent municipality in 1950, when it separated from Campiglia Marittima, San Vincenzo grew mainly as a seaside resort while keeping close ties to its agricultural hinterland and the maritime traditions typical of this part of Tuscany.
History and origins
San Vincenzo's history as an independent settlement is relatively recent, yet the surrounding territory has been inhabited since antiquity, when Etruscan and later Roman communities frequented this stretch of the Tuscan coast for maritime trade and the mineral resources of the hinterland. In later centuries the coastline suffered a long period of depopulation, caused by raids and malaria, and its defense relied on watchtowers built to warn the population of attacks from the sea. Only in the twentieth century, with land reclamation and tourism development, did the village of San Vincenzo grow enough to gain administrative independence in 1950.

San Vincenzo's landscape is shaped by the contrast between the open sea and the green belt of coastal pine forest that runs along almost the entire shoreline. Here lies the Rimigliano Nature Reserve, a protected area preserving sandy dunes, Mediterranean maquis and stone pine woods, a refuge for many bird species and small wildlife. The coast alternates wide sandy beaches with wilder stretches, while inland the land rises gently toward the hills of the Val di Cornia, covered with vineyards, olive groves and scrubland, offering a varied natural setting just minutes from the sea.

San Vincenzo is ideal for relaxing holidays centred on outdoor life. The seafront promenade, lined with shops, bars and restaurants, becomes the heart of town life especially on summer evenings, while the wide sandy beaches offer both equipped bathing establishments and free public stretches.
