History and Origins
Lamporecchio's origins date back to the early Middle Ages, when the settlement grew as an agricultural and defensive outpost on the Montalbano hills, in territory long disputed between Pistoia, Florence and Lucca. Over the centuries the village developed around its parish church and fortified nucleus, its economy tied firmly to the land. In the Baroque era the Rospigliosi family, from Pistoia and linked to Pope Clement IX, built a country villa near the village that still bears their name, testimony to the prestige this corner of Tuscany achieved between the 17th and 18th centuries.

The landscape around Lamporecchio is classic Montalbano countryside: gentle hills covered in centuries-old olive groves and vineyards, interspersed with holm oak woods and cypress trees, sloping down toward the Valdinievole plain. Lamporecchio's culinary tradition centres on brigidini, thin crisp aniseed-flavoured wafers cooked between hot iron plates, which have become a symbol of the town well beyond the Valdinievole area.
