Η ιστορία του/της Miane

The UNESCO Prosecco Hills

Miane lies within the area of the Prosecco Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in July 2019. The designation recognizes an agricultural landscape shaped over centuries, made up of terraced vineyards on steep slopes, grassy ridges, and small plots planted with Glera, the base grape variety of Prosecco Superiore DOCG. The municipal territory extends over hilly ridges alternating vineyards, woodland, and small settlements, preserving a long-standing agrarian organization.

Rolle, the Postcard Hamlet

The hamlet of Rolle is one of the visual landmarks of the Prosecco Hills, so much so that it is often used as the symbolic image of the whole UNESCO area. The small settlement, set along a ridge, is surrounded by vine rows that follow the shape of the land and by cypresses lining the approach road. The hamlet's quiet, away from the main tourist flows, makes it a well-regarded stop for those touring the Prosecco roads by car or bicycle.

Combai and Its Chestnuts

In the higher part of the municipal territory lies Combai, a hamlet historically tied to chestnut growing. The Combai marrone chestnut is the focus of a traditional autumn market-fair, drawing visitors interested in forest produce and seasonal cooking. The centuries-old chestnut groves surrounding the settlement form a distinctive part of the landscape, different from the vineyards that dominate the lower elevations.

Wine and Rural Life

Miane's economy is built on viticulture, with numerous small and medium-sized estates growing Glera using techniques adapted to the slope of the land, often worked by hand because machinery cannot be used on the steepest hillsides. Alongside wine, local agricultural output includes chestnuts, honey, and garden produce, in an economy that remains largely family-run.

Trails Through the Hills

Miane's territory is crossed by roads and paths connecting the various hamlets amid vineyards and woodland, suited to walks and cycling with views over the surrounding hills. The municipality lies a short distance from Valdobbiadene and Conegliano, the main hubs for visitors touring the whole Prosecco Superiore DOCG area.
