A municipality born in 2018
Borgo Veneto was established by regional law on 16 February 2018 through the merger of the municipalities of Megliadino San Fidenzio, Saletto and Santa Margherita d'Adige. The decision followed an advisory referendum held in December 2017, in which a large majority of voters backed unification. Among the names proposed for the new municipality, residents had preferred Quattroville, but the Veneto Regional Council ultimately chose the name Borgo Veneto.
The three original communities
Each of the three villages that merged into Borgo Veneto retains a recognisable identity of its own. Megliadino San Fidenzio, Saletto and Santa Margherita d'Adige keep their respective parish churches, squares and local associations, and residents still refer to them by their own names in everyday life, even though administratively they now form a single municipality with a shared town hall and services.
The Bassa Padovana between plain and the Adige
The territory of Borgo Veneto lies in the Bassa Padovana, the southern part of the province of Padua between the Adige river and the borders with the provinces of Verona and Rovigo. It is a farming plain, with small towns and an economy historically based on cultivating the land, a landscape less familiar to visitors than the Euganean Hills or the city of Padua, but representative of rural Veneto life.
Agriculture and rural traditions
The municipality's economy remains tied to agriculture, with cereal, vegetable and fodder crops covering much of the territory. The three communities keep local festivals and patron saint celebrations that mark the farming year and the village's social life, occasions in which the distinct character of each of the localities that merged into the new municipality can still be found today.
