The Rotonda di Badoere, a unique square in the Veneto
The best-known monument in the municipality stands in the hamlet of Badoere: the Rotonda, a long semicircular portico interrupted by the passage of the provincial road, enclosing a central circular space, Piazza Indipendenza, the hamlet's urban heart. The western wing counts 41 arches, corresponding to as many artisan and merchant shops that opened onto it, with an entrance inside the Rotonda and a balcony-window facing outward. The building was commissioned by the Badoer family to host the Monday weekly market, authorised by the Serenissima Republic in 1689 to the nobleman Angelo Badoer, and its 18th-century origin makes it a rare example of Venetian civic architecture tied to trade.
The antiques market and the life of the square
Today the Rotonda di Badoere no longer hosts its original weekly market, but it has become the venue for an antiques and collectors' market held on the first Sunday of every month, excluding the August break, drawing enthusiasts and curious visitors from across the province and beyond. It is a chance to see the square alive much as it was in its historical role, with stalls arranged under the porticoes and in the central space. Outside market days, the Rotonda remains a place of great architectural interest, quiet and well suited to an unhurried visit to appreciate its proportions and history.
The Sile river and the natural park
Morgano lies within the Sile River Regional Natural Park, one of the longest spring-fed rivers in Europe, fed by the groundwater of the Treviso plain. The river crosses the municipal territory with clear waters and rich riverside vegetation, offering stretches walkable and cyclable along the network of paths connecting the various towns within the park. This natural setting, less well known than other Veneto rivers but of great ecological value, is an important asset for the municipality, which can count on a well-preserved river landscape alongside its farmland.
A farming town with a monument beyond its scale
It should be said honestly that, beyond the Rotonda and the Sile setting, Morgano is a mainly farming and residential municipality, with a rural fabric of cultivated fields and small settlements. It is precisely this contrast that makes it interesting: a monument of real historical and architectural weight, able to draw visitors even from outside the region on market days, set within an otherwise simple territory, not touristic in the traditional sense. For visitors, Morgano therefore offers a concentrated experience, well worth the stop especially when combined with a route along the Sile or a visit timed to the antiques market weekend.
