A municipality of hamlets and waterways
Mareno di Piave has no single dominant centre, but is organised around several hamlets: Bocca di Strada, Ramera, Santa Maria del Piave and Soffratta. The municipal territory is crossed by a dense network of streams, spring-fed watercourses and minor canals, including the Roggia Torsa, Fosso Vadon, Rio Raseva and Canale Piavesella, which shape views of considerable natural value. A cycle path now links Ramera to the centre of Mareno and to the hamlet of Bocca di Strada, offering a peaceful way to explore this fabric of farmland and water.
Along the Via Ungaresca
In the Middle Ages the territory of Mareno was crossed by the Via Ungaresca, the main route linking the Marca Trevigiana to Friuli, which passed precisely through what are now the hamlets of Santa Maria del Piave, Bocca di Strada and Ramera. This legacy as a transit road partly explains the presence of ancient religious buildings such as the church of San Michele at Ramera, first mentioned in a document of 1124 as property of the monks of Lovadina, evidence of an organised settlement well before the modern era.
Churches and Venetian villas
The church of Santi Pietro e Paolo is Mareno's parish church, joined across the municipal territory by other places of worship such as the church of Santi Lorenzo e Marco Evangelista and the church of the Beata Vergine Maria di Lourdes. The agricultural landscape is enriched by several Venetian villas, including Villa Tron, Villa Montalbano Balbi Valier Paoletti, Villa Lavezzari Mantese Angelina and Villa Wiel Dall'Armellina, evidence of noble families once drawn to the fertility of this land.
Prosecco and farming country
Mareno di Piave lies within the broad plain where Prosecco DOC is produced, the appellation covering a vast area between Treviso, eastern Veneto and part of Friuli. Alongside viticulture, local farming retains a mixed character, with arable crops and livestock composing an orderly and still strongly rural landscape, just a short drive from the better known Prosecco Superiore hills of Conegliano Valdobbiadene.
