Creazzo की कहानी

History and origins

Creazzo's oldest core developed on the hill overlooking the surrounding plain, where the parish church of Sant'Ulderico and the Palazzo del Colle stand, once the town hall and today used for civil weddings and exhibitions. From the hill there is a full view over the town below, a vantage point that still makes clear the site's strategic importance in medieval times. Like many towns in the Vicenza area, Creazzo's history has long been intertwined with that of Vicenza itself, of which it is today effectively a residential extension, while retaining a distinct identity tied to its hillside landscape.

What to see: the hill and historic villas

Beyond the historic hilltop core, Creazzo preserves several fine villas scattered across its hillside area, including the eighteenth-century Villa Fadinelli Suppiej, Villa Mocenigo Legrenzi, known as 'Villa del Sole', and the Villa Scola Camerini complex, locally called 'Il Castello', whose origins date to the fifteenth century. These are private buildings, mostly viewable from the outside, but they lend the hillside landscape a stately character, in contrast with the more modern fabric of the plain below.

Nature nearby: the hills

Creazzo's hills, planted with vineyards, olive groves and broccoli, offer a network of scenic paths suited to walking and cycling, with views over the Vicenza plain. It is a small but well-tended agricultural area, offering a pleasant alternative to urban strolls for those staying in Vicenza, just a few minutes away.

Food and wine: the broccolo fiolaro

The broccolo fiolaro di Creazzo is the culinary specialty for which the town is known throughout the Veneto. Its name comes from 'fioi', the shoots that sprout along the plant's stem, in the local Venetian dialect. Its cultivation dates back to Roman times, with references as early as Cato the Elder, while local tradition holds that even Goethe, passing through in 1786, was struck by it while seeing it at the market. Harvested between November and February, the broccolo fiolaro is celebrated each year with the Sagra del Broccolo Fiolaro, held in mid-January and drawing visitors from across the province.

How to get there and location

Creazzo borders directly onto Vicenza on its western side and can be reached from the city centre within minutes by public transport or car. Its location, also served by a motorway exit on the A4, makes it a practical base for visitors to Vicenza and its Palladian villas who also want to discover a quieter hillside corner.
