L'histoire de Tarzo
Hills between the Revine lakes
Tarzo's territory unfolds among morainic hills and the Revine lakes, two basins of glacial origin that occupy the Parco dei Laghi della Vallata, straddling the municipalities of Tarzo and Revine Lago. It is a landscape combining a lakeside setting with hilly vineyard country, typical of the Alta Marca Trevigiana.
Lago di Lago and the glacial landscape
The larger of the two lakes, known as Lago di Lago or San Giorgio, is fed by the Piaveson stream; the smaller one, Lago di Santa Maria, has more limited water circulation. The two basins are separated by a marshy area and connected by the Barche canal. Walking paths run around Lago di Lago, allowing visitors to observe this uncommon pre-Alpine wetland environment up close.
Fratta and Colmaggiore, the villages of murals
The hamlets of Fratta and Colmaggiore retain an old layout and are known for murals painted by various Venetian artists, depicting local traditions, history and folklore on house facades. Both hamlets lie along the Prosecco Trail, which links the villages of the Conegliano and Valdobbiadene hills.
The Winged Lion and the UNESCO Prosecco hills
On the lakeshore near Tarzo stands a large wooden sculpture of a winged lion, over seven metres tall, which has become a new symbol of the Prosecco Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, a UNESCO World Heritage site. It visually marks Tarzo's place within this protected vineyard landscape.
A land of vineyards and nature
Beyond the lakes, Tarzo's territory is marked by the viticulture of the Prosecco hills, with vine rows climbing the slopes between woods and small settlements. This blend of natural environment and farming landscape makes the town a popular stop for those following the hiking and cycling routes of the Alta Marca.
