A foothill village between Schio and the Val Leogra
San Vito di Leguzzano lies in the foothill belt of the Alto Vicentino, at just over 160 metres above sea level, in a transitional territory between the Vicenza plain and the first pre-alpine reliefs leading to the Val Leogra and nearby Schio. The surrounding landscape alternates cultivated hills, woods and small streams, offering trekking and mountain-biking routes accessible even to those seeking short, easy outings, with a good network of hillside trails in the area.
The historic centre, an 'open-air museum'
The heart of San Vito di Leguzzano is a compact, well-preserved historic centre, with courtyards, porticoes and facades that trace the town's evolution between the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries. Among its religious buildings, the parish church dedicated to Saints Vitus, Modestus and Crescentia and the sixteenth-century chapel of San Valentino stand out. At the heart of the town also stands a nineteenth-century villa, restored in 1876 by Cavalier Francesco Novello, the last mayor before the fascist 'ventennio' and a local benefactor, evidence of the agrarian and industrial bourgeoisie that shaped the municipality's history.
The Ethnographic Museum of Woodworking
San Vito di Leguzzano has a long craft tradition tied to woodworking, particularly the building of farm carts and barrels. This heritage is told at the Museo Etnografico della Lavorazione del Legno, which displays tools, carts and barrels still made today using artisan techniques passed down through generations. It is a stop that reveals, beyond the churches and villas, the productive identity of a foothill town that has preserved crafts long lost elsewhere.
