A transitional municipality between plain and hills
Carrè's territory develops in the belt where the Vicenza plain, just north of Thiene, begins to ripple into moraine and pre-Alpine hills. It is a transitional landscape, with cultivated fields in the lower part rising gradually towards wooded slopes and small hills, never reaching the more demanding elevations of true mountains. This intermediate position makes Carrè a quiet municipality, with a pace of life still tied to the countryside, yet just minutes from the services and infrastructure of Thiene and the Alto Vicentino.
Agriculture and small-scale manufacturing
Carrè's economy reflects the pattern widespread across the Alto Vicentino, where traditional agriculture coexists with a network of small and medium manufacturing businesses that emerged from the postwar decades onward. These are not equipped or signposted routes on the scale of those in the nearby Pre-Alps, but a network of country lanes and paths that residents regularly use on foot or by bicycle, suited to anyone seeking quick, genuine contact with nature without straying far from the village. On clearer days, from the highest points of the municipal territory the view can stretch out over the plain and, in the opposite direction, towards the first pre-Alpine ridges that lead up to the higher reaches of the Asiago Plateau.
Proximity to Thiene and the Vicenza foothills
Carrè lies a few kilometres from Thiene, the Alto Vicentino's main reference centre for services, commerce and connections, and not far from Schio and Marostica, both known for their historical and artistic heritage. This position makes Carrè a complementary rather than a standalone destination: it is the kind of village visited as part of a wider itinerary through the Vicenza foothills, appreciated for its quiet character precisely in contrast with the livelier centres nearby. Road links towards the plain and the first pre-Alpine hills also make it possible to reach both the art cities of the Vicenza area and the more demanding mountain destinations of the plateau in a short time.
Village life and the farming seasons
Like many small foothill municipalities, Carrè shapes its calendar around village fairs, patron saint festivals and events tied to the farming seasons, moments that remain the most authentic way to get to know the local community. Visitors should not expect an organised tourist offer, but rather the chance to observe up close the daily life of a Veneto village that, while transformed by the industrial development of the late twentieth century, keeps a direct bond with the land and its own traditions.
