Sporminore between the Val di Non and the Piana Rotaliana
Sporminore occupies the southern end of the Val di Non, the valley carved by the Noce stream that descends from the mountains to the confluence with the Adige River, near Mezzolombardo, in the Piana Rotaliana. The village is located on the right bank of the Noce, between the two watercourses that characterize its landscape, the Rio Sporeggio and the Rio Lovernatico, at an altitude of 515 meters at the foot of the Brenta Dolomites. The municipal territory, covering about 17 square kilometers, borders Campodenno, Ton, and Spormaggiore, the latter municipality being quite distinct from Sporminore despite being its closest neighbor. This pivotal position, between the apple orchards of the valley and the first Dolomite foothills, has made Sporminore for centuries a transit point towards the Rotaliana and, at the same time, an agricultural mountain outpost, an identity that the village still preserves today in its rural layout and in the rhythm dictated by the seasons of fruit cultivation.

L'agricoltura di Sporminore è segnata, come in tutta la Val di Non, dalla coltivazione della mela, tutelata dal marchio Melinda e dalla denominazione Mela Val di Non DOP, la prima mela in Europa a ottenere questo riconoscimento. I meleti rivestono i pendii intorno al paese fin quasi alle porte del centro abitato, disegnando in primavera, al tempo della fioritura, un paesaggio candido che è tra le immagini più riconoscibili della valle. A Sporminore ha sede il Consorzio Ortofrutticolo del Lovernatico, struttura di conferimento e stoccaggio dei frutti che testimonia il peso economico della frutticoltura per la comunità locale, insieme alle numerose aziende agricole familiari che lavorano i terreni tra il paese e le frazioni vicine. Percorrere le strade poderali tra i filari, soprattutto nei mesi della fioritura o della raccolta, resta uno dei modi più semplici e autentici per conoscere il volto agricolo di questo angolo di Trentino.
I canyon, le gole e i sentieri lungo i torrenti
Il paesaggio di Sporminore è inciso dai due torrenti che ne segnano i confini, il Rio Sporeggio e il Rio Lovernatico, entrambi tributari del Noce e ricchi di tratti scoscesi e pietrosi che nella parte alta assumono l'aspetto di piccole gole. Il Lovernatico, gestito anche come riserva di pesca con tratti di pronta pesca per la trota fario, scende con un dislivello marcato dai boschi fino al fondovalle, in un percorso che alterna rive boscose a salti rocciosi. Risalendo il corso dello Sporeggio si entra invece nella omonima Valle dello Sporeggio, propaggine meridionale della Val di Non racchiusa tra il sottogruppo della Campa e il Monte Fausior, percorribile lungo i sentieri 301 e 302 fino a Malga Spora. Sono itinerari adatti a un'escursione di mezza giornata, che permettono di passare in poco tempo dal fondovalle coltivato a mela ai boschi di conifere e ai primi pascoli d'alta quota delle Dolomiti di Brenta.
I boschi, il paesaggio e la natura
The territory of Sporminore is almost entirely within the Adamello Brenta Natural Park, the largest protected area in Trentino, and overlooks the Brenta Dolomites, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Spruce and beech woods rise from the apple orchards to the highest altitudes, in an environment that is still little anthropized and also hosts the brown bear, whose presence is documented on the slopes towards the Sporeggio Valley. Among the naturalistic curiosities of the village, the Bus de la Spia is noteworthy, a karst cavity of speleological interest linked to a local legend that claims it is connected, via a secret passage, to Lake Molveno. Descending towards the valley, in the direction of the Piana Rotaliana, the municipal territory extends into the La Rocchetta Biotope, a protected wetland established in 1992 along the Noce river, populated mainly by avifauna. Not far away, in the neighboring municipality of Spormaggiore, is the Trentino Wildlife Park, a wildlife destination that is separate but can easily be combined with a visit to the area.
History and experiences among castles and churches
The history of Sporminore is long linked to the Spaur family, who from the 14th century controlled the territory from the nearby Castel Sporo, now partly in ruins, located along the ancient Traversara road leading to the Giudicarie. In the village, I Palazzi remains visible, the elegant noble residence once belonging to the Spaur family, which still preserves wrought iron considered among the most valuable in Trentino. The inhabited center is dominated by the parish church of the Addolorata, built between 1874 and 1879 and decorated with frescoes by Matteo Tevini, to which popular tradition links the story of a gift from Empress Elisabeth of Bavaria, the famous Sissi. Administratively, Sporminore lost its autonomy for twenty years, being merged in 1928 into the municipality of Spormaggiore, and then becoming an independent municipality again in 1947. Today, the village combines this historical memory with an offer of rural experiences, including walks through the apple orchards, visits to the small monuments in the center, and itineraries towards the Sporeggio Valley, in a balance between heritage and daily agricultural life.
