Mezzana, the heart of Val di Sole
Mezzana is a municipality in the Val di Sole, in the province of Trento, spread along the banks of the Noce river in a basin surrounded by coniferous forests and peaks exceeding three thousand meters. The village retains a typical layout of Trentino alpine villages, with stone and wood houses, small squares, and a pace of life tied to the seasons. Thanks to its location, Mezzana is a reference point for visitors to the Val di Sole: from here, both the valley floor, with its services and connections, and the higher altitudes towards the ski resorts are easily reachable. The proximity to the Noce river makes the village a natural transit point between valley life and the mountains, while the atmosphere remains that of a community that lives on mountain tourism in every season, between winter skiing and summer dedicated to excursions and water sports.
Skiing in Marilleva and connection to Madonna di Campiglio
Mezzana is one of the access gates to the Skiarea Folgarida-Marilleva, a ski area that develops from the hamlet of Marilleva, a renowned high-altitude resort with slopes that descend into the woods and large sunny areas. The ski lifts connect Folgarida and Marilleva to the famous Madonna di Campiglio, thus becoming part of the larger Skirama Dolomiti di Brenta ski area, one of the best-known ski systems in the Italian Alps. This means that, with a single ski pass, from the lifts above Mezzana it is possible to reach different slopes depending on exposure and difficulty, alternating panoramic stretches overlooking the Brenta Dolomites with more technical descents. In winter, the village therefore becomes a convenient base for skiing, with the possibility of returning to the valley in the same day after skiing on several interconnected ski areas.
The Noce River and rafting
The Noce River flows through the Val di Sole, passing next to Mezzana, and represents one of the valley's identifying elements. Its waters, fed by the glaciers and snows of the Adamello-Presanella and the Brenta Dolomites, often flow impetuously, with rapids that have made the Noce one of the most renowned rivers in Italy for whitewater sports. During the warm season, the valley comes alive with rafting, hydrospeed, and canoe-kayak enthusiasts, who descend the most suitable stretches accompanied by expert guides. The Noce rapids, classified into several difficulty levels, attract both beginners on their first experience and more trained athletes looking for challenging routes. Even for those who do not practice water sports, the river remains a central landscape element, followed by paths and cycle paths that allow you to observe its course up close throughout the valley.
The Adamello-Brenta Natural Park
On the outskirts of Mezzana lies the Adamello-Brenta Natural Park, the largest protected area in Trentino and one of the most significant in the central Alps. The park encompasses two very different mountain groups, the granite Adamello-Presanella and the Dolomite Brenta, thus combining glacial environments, coniferous forests, alpine lakes, and vertical rock faces. It is also known for being the area where the brown bear population reintroduced in Trentino lives, as well as deer, roe deer, and numerous species of alpine birds. Within the park, a dense network of marked trails, refuges, and bivouacs allows for excursions of all levels, from walks through the woods to more challenging climbs towards the peaks of the Brenta. For those staying in Mezzana, the park therefore represents one of the most immediate natural destinations for days dedicated to trekking and nature observation.
Railway, cycle path, and excursions
Mezzana is served by the historic Trento-Malé railway, which runs up the Val di Sole, connecting the valley floor with Trento and allowing access to the village even without a car. The Val di Sole cycle path also runs along the valley, a mostly flat route that follows the course of the Noce River through meadows, woods, and small villages, very popular with families and cycle tourists in all seasons. Numerous hiking trails also start from the village, leading up towards the surrounding woods and mountain pastures, offering panoramic views of the valley and the peaks that border it. Between train, bicycle, and walking, Mezzana is therefore ideal for a visit that prioritizes soft mobility, allowing you to alternate stretches in the valley, rides along the Noce River, and excursions to higher altitudes without necessarily relying on a car.
