Fiè allo Sciliar is situated on a sunny terrace overlooking the Val Gardena and Val d'Isarco, dominated by the unmistakable silhouette of the Sciliar, one of the most recognizable symbols of the Dolomites. The historic center retains the typical character of South Tyrolean villages, with stone and wooden houses, frescoed arcades, and the parish church overlooking the main square. All around, traditional farmsteads, apple orchards, and spruce forests extend, making the landscape ideal for long walks even outside the main season. Fiè is part of the Alpe di Siusi region and has always been a reference point for those seeking authentic alpine tourism, far from the chaos of major resorts. A short distance from the center of Fiè stands Castel Presule, in German Schloss Prösels, one of the most imposing and best-preserved Renaissance castles in South Tyrol. Expanded in the 16th century by the von Völs family, the manor preserves frescoed halls, a chapel, and a large inner courtyard, and can be visited through guided tours that recount its history and the legends linked to the Sciliar territory. In addition to the castle, the area around Fiè offers a wide choice of excursions for all levels: from simpler paths towards the Fiè lake and the surrounding farms, to more challenging routes that ascend towards the Bolzano Refuge and the Sciliar peak. Numerous itineraries connect the village to the Alpe di Siusi, allowing for a mix of culture, history, and nature in a single holiday, with traditional refreshment points along the way where you can taste typical South Tyrolean dishes.
