A village on the Predaia plateau
Coredo is located in the Val di Non, in western Trentino, on a sunny plateau known as the Predaia plateau. Since 2015, the ancient municipality has merged, along with other hamlets, into the municipality of Predaia, but Coredo retains its identity as the reference center of the plateau. Its location, halfway up the slope between the valley floor and the mountain woods, offers wide views of the valley and a pleasant climate in both summer and winter, favoring year-round tourism.
Anaune history and origins
The origins of Coredo are rooted in the history of the Val di Non, a land of the Anauni inhabited since pre-Roman times and later marked by the passage of the Bishopric of Trento. Like many villages on the plateau, Coredo developed around a rural economy based on livestock farming, crop cultivation, and forest exploitation, maintaining a strong connection with the territory over the centuries. Traces of this past can still be read today in the layout of the village, in the rural buildings, and in the toponymy of the plateau.
Lakes, plateau, and apple orchards
The most recognizable feature of the Coredo territory are the lakes of Coredo and Tavon, two bodies of water nestled in the green of the Predaia plateau, surrounded by meadows and coniferous forests. Around Coredo, the apple orchards of the Val di Non extend, where the famous local apple originates, which in spring color the landscape with white and pink flowers. The combination of lakes, orchards, and forests makes the plateau a varied natural environment, appreciated for its air quality and tranquility away from large tourist flows.
What to do between lakes and excursions
The Coredo plateau is suitable for walks and hikes of all levels, with paths that run along the lakes of Coredo and Tavon and venture into the woods of Predaia, ideal for birdwatching and family walks. From here it is possible to reach the sanctuary of San Romedio, perched on a rocky spur and one of Trentino's most evocative pilgrimage destinations. In winter, the plateau offers cross-country ski slopes and trails and snowshoeing in the snow.
Flavors and traditions of the Val di Non
The table of Coredo tells the story of the rural Anaune culture: the apple of the Val di Non is the protagonist of desserts, strudels, and preserves, while mountain pasture cheeses, mountain honey, and local cured meats complete the gastronomic offer of the plateau. Village festivals and celebrations linked to the cycle of the seasons, from the blooming of the apple orchards to the autumn harvest, still mark the life of the community today and offer visitors an authentic way to discover the traditions of Predaia.
