Caderzone Terme in Val Rendena
Caderzone Terme is located in the central part of Val Rendena, the valley carved by the Sarca river between the Adamello-Presanella massif to the west and the Brenta Dolomites to the east, in the province of Trento. The municipality, which has just over 690 inhabitants and is known in the local dialect as Cadärción, develops at 723 meters above sea level on a territory largely included within the boundaries of the Adamello-Brenta Natural Park, the largest protected area in Trentino. It borders the municipalities of Pinzolo, Giustino, Spiazzo, Strembo, Carisolo, Massimeno, and Bocenago, with which it shares the valley's history and traditions. It was precisely with Bocenago, during the fascist period, that Caderzone was merged in 1928 into the municipality of Strembo, only to regain administrative autonomy in 1947. The village, recognized with the Orange Flag by the Touring Club Italiano for its tourist-environmental quality, represents today one of the reference locations in Val Rendena, a crossroads between thermal tourism, hiking, and rural mountain life.
The Spas of Caderzone: the Sant'Antonio spring
The distinctive feature of Caderzone is its thermal vocation, which gave the municipality its very name. The Sant'Antonio spring has supplied for generations the ferruginous water that flows in the village, rich in iron and known since ancient times for its healing properties, once used according to popular tradition for the treatment of anemia and skin conditions. In the heart of the village lies Palazzo Lodron-Bertelli, the ancient noble residence linked to the Lodron counts family, who for centuries exerted their influence over large territories of Val Rendena and Giudicarie. The building, with its sober mountain architecture, today preserves, in the spaces of the old stables on the ground floor, the Malga Museum, an exhibition path dedicated to alpine pastoral and dairy civilization. Tools for milk processing, utensils for the production of butter, cheese, and ricotta, objects from daily life in the mountain pastures tell the stories of generations of farmers and shepherds who built their history on these high-altitude pastures. The museum thus returns a fundamental chapter of the identity of Caderzone and Val Rendena, where cattle breeding, particularly of the Rendena breed, still remains a living activity linked to the numerous mountain pastures scattered around the village.
Adamello-Brenta Park and the surrounding nature
A large part of the municipal territory of Caderzone falls within the Adamello-Brenta Natural Park, which with its over 600 square kilometers is the largest protected area in Trentino, located between the Adamello-Presanella glaciers and the Dolomite spires of the Brenta Group. The landscape around the village alternates between coniferous forests, high-altitude pastures, and alpine bodies of water, such as Lake San Giuliano and Lake Garzonè, both destinations for walks and sport fishing, along with the more remote lakes of Amola and Vacarsa. A dense network of trails, suitable for both experienced hikers and families, winds through the mountain huts and forests towards the Brenta refuges and the higher altitudes of the Adamello, offering panoramas ranging from glacial peaks to cultivated valleys.
