The pearl of Versilia
Viareggio is the main seaside resort of Versilia, the stretch of Tuscan coast between the sea and the Apuan Alps, in the province of Lucca. Developed between the 19th and 20th centuries as a refined seaside resort, it has managed to maintain an elegant and sophisticated charm, with its grand hotels, historic cafes, and beach establishments. A city of the sea by vocation, it is also linked to shipbuilding, which here produces luxury yachts appreciated worldwide. Its promenade, lively all year round, is the heart of city life and one of the symbols of Versilia.
The Viareggio Carnival
Ce qui rend Viareggio célèbre dans le monde entier, c'est son Carnaval, l'un des plus célèbres et des plus anciens d'Europe, qui chaque hiver transforme la ville en un grand spectacle en plein air. La promenade en bord de mer de Viareggio est une élégante succession de bâtiments de style Liberty et Art Déco, témoignage de l'âge d'or de la ville en tant que station balnéaire. Le symbole est le Gran Caffè Margherita, avec ses dômes et ses décorations, flanqué de boutiques, de magasins historiques et de cafés donnant sur la mer. Viareggio offers kilometers of wide, equipped sandy beaches, ideal for summer holidays, with the backdrop of the Apuan Alps towering behind the city. Behind the promenade stretches the Ponente and Levante pine forest, a green lung for walking and playing sports in the shade of the pine trees. In the surroundings, Versilia offers other well-known seaside resorts, the hilly villages of the hinterland, and the nearby natural oasis of Lake Massaciuccoli, linked to the composer Giacomo Puccini, who composed much of his work here in Torre del Lago.

Viareggio's cuisine is the seafood cuisine of Versilia: the protagonist is fresh fish, from cacciucco to soups, from seafood to spaghetti with clams, often enjoyed in the historic restaurants on the harbor.
