History and Origins
Vaglia's origins are tied to its strategic position along the Via Bolognese, a route connecting Florence to Emilia already used in medieval times. Over the centuries the area was shaped by the passage of travelers, merchants and pilgrims heading to the Monte Senario Sanctuary, founded in the 13th century by the Seven Holy Founders of the Order of the Servants of Mary. Near Pratolino, during the Medici era, one of the family's great pleasure villas was also built, evidence of the long historical bond between these hills and nearby Florence.

Vaglia's landscape is typical of the Florentine Apennines: wooded hills covered with chestnut, oak and beech trees, crossed by small streams such as the Carza torrent.
