Introduction and location
Terranuova Bracciolini is located in the upper Valdarno, in the province of Arezzo, on the left bank of the Arno River, in an intermediate position between Florence and Arezzo. The municipal territory extends from the valley floor, where production facilities are concentrated, to the hills and the first elevations of Pratomagno to the east. Numerous hamlets scattered among vineyards, olive groves, and woods complete a typically Tuscan landscape, made up of gentle slopes and small rural villages. This location, along ancient communication routes in the Arno valley, has always made the municipality a point of passage and exchange between the plain and the mountains.
History and origins
The urban core was born in 1337 as 'terra nuova' (new land), one of the planned settlements founded by the Republic of Florence to strengthen territorial control and organize trade along the Arno valley. From this origin derives the regular layout of the historic center, with orthogonal streets designed according to the rational criteria of the time. The second name, Bracciolini, was added in modern times in honor of Poggio Bracciolini, a humanist and scholar born in this territory, known for his work in researching and disseminating ancient classical texts during the Renaissance.
Nature and landscape
Dominating the landscape to the east of the town is the Pratomagno massif, an Apennine ridge covered by extensive chestnut and beech woods, a destination for excursions and walks along panoramic ridges. The valley floor, crossed by the Arno, alternates cultivated areas with more urbanized spaces, while the surrounding hills preserve a mosaic of vineyards, olive groves, and small woods. This variety of environments, from the river plain to the mountains, allows for outdoor activities in every season, from trekking to simple nature walks, in a context still uncrowded compared to more famous Tuscan destinations.

The municipal territory is also known for a consolidated artisan tradition linked to furniture making, which in the course of the twentieth century gave rise to numerous workshops and production realities still active, and for events dedicated to antiques that attract visitors and exhibitors from outside the area.

The local cuisine is rooted in the peasant tradition of the Valdarno Aretino, made up of simple dishes based on legumes, locally raised meats, seasonal vegetables, and unsalted bread, according to Tuscan custom. Hills and hamlets produce extra virgin olive oil and wine, the fruit of agriculture still tied to seasonal rhythms. Chestnuts harvested on the slopes of Pratomagno enrich autumn gastronomy with typical sweets and preparations. This is complemented by wood and furniture craftsmanship, which has been an identity component of the local economy for decades, as well as a resource for antique-related tourism.
