Introduction and location
San Vincenzo stands on the Tyrrhenian coast of the province of Livorno, in Tuscany, along the stretch known as the Etruscan Coast, halfway between Livorno and Piombino. The municipal territory is part of the Val di Cornia, an area that combines a coastal plain, wooded hills, and one of the region's most appreciated sandy coastlines. Having become an autonomous municipality in 1950, separating from Campiglia Marittima, San Vincenzo has developed primarily as a seaside resort, while maintaining close ties with the agricultural hinterland and the typical maritime traditions of this stretch of Tuscany.
History and origins
The origins of San Vincenzo as an autonomous settlement are relatively recent, but the territory on which it stands has been inhabited since antiquity, when Etruscan and then Roman populations frequented this stretch of the Tuscan coast for maritime trade and the mineral resources of the hinterland. In the following centuries, the area was marked by a long period of coastal depopulation, due to raids and malaria, and the defense of the coastline was entrusted to watchtowers erected to protect the population from sea raids. Only in the 20th century, with land reclamation and tourism development, did the nucleus of San Vincenzo establish itself to the point of obtaining administrative autonomy in 1950.

The landscape of San Vincenzo is dominated by the contrast between the open sea and the green belt of the coastal pine forest that runs along almost the entire coastline. Here lies the Rimigliano Nature Reserve, a protected area that preserves sandy dunes, Mediterranean scrub, and umbrella pine woods, a refuge for numerous species of birds and small wildlife. The coast alternates between wide sandy beaches and wilder stretches, while inland the landscape gently rises towards the hills of the Val di Cornia, cultivated with vineyards, olive groves, and scrub, offering a varied natural context just a few minutes from the sea.
