Die Geschichte von Lusiana Conco
The merger of Lusiana and Conco
The municipality of Lusiana Conco was established on 20 February 2019 through the merger of the two municipalities of Lusiana and Conco, both facing the southern slope of the Altopiano dei Sette Comuni. The union created a territorially large municipality, encompassing pastures, mountain huts, pine woods and beech forests spread across its various settlements, unifying two municipal histories closely tied since their origins to the Federation of the Sette Comuni.
The balcony of the Asiago plateau
Thanks to its position on the southern slope of the plateau, facing the Vicenza plain, Lusiana Conco is called the balcony of the Asiago plateau. From the territory's panoramic points, views stretch from the pastures and woods of the plateau down to the plain below on the clearest days, offering a different perspective from the more famous towns at the plateau's centre, such as Asiago.
Prehistoric traces at Val Lastaro and Monte Corgnon
The municipal territory preserves some of the oldest evidence of human presence on the plateau. Excavations carried out in the Val Lastaro area have uncovered traces of hunter settlements dating back around eleven thousand years, while finds on Monte Corgnon, at Coldinechele and at Covolo document human presence as far back as the Palaeolithic, making the area a reference point for the study of Alpine Veneto prehistory.
Cimbrian culture and the Federation of the Sette Comuni
Since around the 12th century, Lusiana has been part of the Federation of the Sette Comuni, when the first settlers of Bavarian origin arrived, later known as the Cimbri. Their presence left a lasting mark on local place names and on the culture of the territory, which shares this particular linguistic and cultural legacy with the other towns of the plateau, today the subject of study and heritage initiatives.
Pastures, mountain huts and woodland
The landscape of Lusiana Conco is dominated by high-altitude pastures, still-active mountain huts and broad pine and beech woods, typical of the pre-Alpine environment of the Sette Comuni plateau. The tradition of alpine grazing and dairy production remains alive in several mountain huts across the territory, which in summer also serve as refreshment points for those following the area's hiking trails.
