Resana 的故事

History and origins

Resana's origins date back to Roman times, as shown by archaeological finds unearthed in the area, but it is from the 11th century onward that the town appears consistently in historical records, when the «villages» of Resana and Brusaporco are repeatedly mentioned in the episcopal documents of Treviso. A papal bull of 1152 confirms that the Bishop of Treviso held the «Castrum de Resana, cum villa et foresto, et omnibus pertinentiis suis» - the castle, the village and its dependencies. In the centuries that followed, the territory passed through various rulers, from the Lombards to the Venetians and later the Habsburgs, leaving their mark on the local agrarian layout and religious architecture.

What to see

Resana's architectural heritage is concentrated mainly in its churches and Venetian villas. The Church of San Giovanni Battista, dating from the 14th century, preserves a Gothic facade and sacred frescoes; the parish church dedicated to San Bartolomeo was instead built in the mid-18th century to a design by Giorgio Massari, one of the leading figures of Venetian architecture of his time. Among the noble residences, Villa Varda stands out, an elegant 18th-century mansion surrounded by a centuries-old park, today home to exhibitions, concerts and cultural events; not far away stands Villa Loredan-Morosini, a building of Venetian design still inhabited today.

Nature and surroundings

Resana's territory is crossed by minor waterways linked to the Sile river basin, and the old Cervara railway bridge, now open to pedestrians and cyclists, offers a pleasant view over the river and the vegetation along its banks. The town also lies along the Treviso-Ostiglia cycle path, built on the trackbed of a 20th-century military railway line: almost 118 kilometres crossing the Veneto region into Lombardy, today one of the region's best-loved cycling routes, ideal for a quiet stage through cultivated fields and small rural settlements.

Local life and economy

Resana today is a farming and manufacturing town, set within the belt of the upper Treviso plain that gradually industrialised in the second half of the 20th century without losing its ties to the countryside. Alongside its farms, small and medium-sized craft businesses have taken root, while the historic centre keeps the intimate character typical of villages in the Marca Trevigiana. It is a place shaped by a balance between fieldwork, local production and proximity to larger towns such as Castelfranco Veneto and Cittadella.

How to get there and location

Resana lies in the western part of the province of Treviso, on the border with Padua, conveniently placed along the route between Castelfranco Veneto and Cittadella. The town can be reached by car via the network of provincial roads that link the Treviso plain, while the nearest railway stations are in Castelfranco Veneto, a junction on the Venice-Bassano-Trento line. Its position, away from the main tourist flows, makes it a fitting stop for those seeking a more direct contact with the Venetian countryside.
