Montegaldella 的故事

A Farming Village at the Gateway to the Colli Berici

Montegaldella lies on the right bank of the Bacchiglione, in a plain that gently rises toward the first hills of the Colli Berici. It is a small, agricultural municipality with little tourist traffic, a short distance from both Vicenza and Padua. The land is dominated by cultivated fields and a rural fabric that has kept a slow pace over time, away from the Veneto's more travelled routes.

Villa Conti Lampertico, La Deliziosa

Montegaldella's principal monument is Villa Conti Lampertico Campagnolo, popularly known as La Deliziosa. Built for Count Piero Conti from 1622, it was repeatedly reworked and enlarged in the 19th century by the architect Luigi Dalla Vecchia, who gave it its current appearance: a monumental main wing with a double-height Ionic portico crowned by an attic, flanked by lower porticoed side wings. The original Corinthian loggia survives, evidence of the building's long architectural stratification.

The Park and the Bacchiglione River

The villa's park runs along the Bacchiglione and is enriched by statues attributed to Orazio Marinali and his workshop, including a series of masks from 18th-century Italian theatre. An 18th-century wrought-iron gate, set on the north-eastern side of the courtyard near the barchessa, connects the courtyard-garden to the river: one of the finest examples of 18th-century Venetian ironwork, today open to visitors as part of the Ville Venete network.

Between Montegaldella and Montegalda

Montegaldella shares its territory with the neighbouring, larger Montegalda, dominated by the Grimani-Sorlini castle, and sits within the wider tourist area of the Colli Berici and the Riviera Berica, alongside the villages of Colzè, Longare and Grisignano di Zocco. It is an area best explored together, where each village adds a piece to a landscape built of Venetian villas, waterways and hills sloping down toward the plain.

A Landscape to Experience Slowly

Beyond the villa, Montegaldella offers no major monuments, but a genuine agricultural landscape dotted with rural courtyard-farms, suited to those seeking a less-visited corner of the Veneto. The roads along the Bacchiglione lend themselves to walks and cycling, while the proximity to Vicenza makes it easy to combine a visit with the better-known destinations of the Colli Berici.
