Camisano Vicentino 的故事

History and origins

The origins of Camisano Vicentino go back to Roman times, as shown by several archaeological finds in the area. The town played a role in the region's medieval history: notable is the battle of 7 January 1313, when Cangrande I della Scala came to the aid of the people of Vicenza to drive Paduan troops out of Camisano. In 1404 Vicenza, and with it Camisano, came under the rule of the Republic of Venice, beginning a long period of agricultural stability that lasted for centuries.

What to see

The spiritual and architectural heart of the town is the Church of San Giovanni Battista, dating from the sixteenth century. Also worth a stop are the Church of San Nicolò, built between 1744 and 1752, and the Church of Santa Maria del Rosario, an ancient mother church of probable Lombard origin. A walk through the centre reveals remains of the old medieval walls, while in the hamlet of Santa Maria stands Villa Capra Barbaran, a significant example of seventeenth century Venetian architecture.

Nature and surroundings

The Parco del Fontechio e Fosso d'Erba is the town's main public green space, a quiet place for a walk, a picnic or letting children play. The surrounding territory, mostly flat and cultivated, lends itself to short cycling trips towards neighbouring towns, including Piombino Dese, home to the celebrated Palladian Villa Cornaro, not far from the municipal border.

Local life and economy

Camisano Vicentino is also known locally as a retail hub, thanks to the concentration of shops and businesses along its main streets, which has earned it the informal nickname of the shopping town. Alongside commerce, the local economy retains an agricultural and craft component rooted in the tradition of the Vicenza plain.

Events and traditions

The town's calendar follows the patronal festivals and traditional fairs typical of the Veneto plain, gathering moments for the community that mostly take place in spring and summer, with markets, stalls and events organised by local associations.

Getting there

Thanks to its position halfway between Vicenza and Padua, and between the sea and the mountains, Camisano Vicentino is easily reached by car along the area's main provincial roads and makes a good starting point for exploring the surrounding countryside and Venetian villas.
