Spormaggiore is a municipality in Trentino with about 1,300 inhabitants, located at an altitude of 565 meters, in a pivotal position between the Val di Non, with its vast apple orchards, and the Paganella plateau, the mountain that overlooks Lake Molveno and the Rotaliana plain. The municipal territory, covering just over 30 square kilometers, includes the main town and six hamlets, including Bèlfort, which owes its name to the ruins of the homonymous castle, and borders Molveno, Campodenno, Ton, and other municipalities in the area. Spormaggiore is now known above all for Belpark, the former Wildlife Park active since 1994, which houses brown bears, wolves, lynx, and other alpine animals as part of the European Life Ursus project for the conservation of bears in the Alps, managed in collaboration with the Adamello-Brenta Natural Park. This is complemented by a historical heritage made up of medieval ruins, such as Castel Belfort, and religious buildings such as the two adjacent churches of San Vigilio and the Nativity of Mary, as well as a rural economy centered on apple cultivation, a distinctive feature of the Val di Non. Between walks in the apple orchards, visits to the bear park, and the trails that climb towards the Paganella, Spormaggiore offers a balanced synthesis of nature, history, and alpine tradition.

Spormaggiore 的故事

Between the Val di Non and the Paganella plateau

Spormaggiore is situated at an altitude of 565 meters, on a slope that marks the transition between the Val di Non, a vast valley in Trentino known for apple cultivation, and the Paganella plateau, the mountain that overlooks Lake Molveno and separates the valley from the Rotaliana basin. The municipal territory, covering just over 30 square kilometers, is divided between the main town and six hamlets, including Bèlfort, Fabbrica, Maurina, Meano, Sedriago, and Seghe, and borders Molveno, Campodenno, Ton, and other neighboring municipalities in the Val di Non and the Brenta Dolomites. This border position between two very different environments, the valley of apple orchards and the calcareous mountain of Paganella, gives Spormaggiore's landscape a transitional character, with woods, meadows, and slopes that guide the gaze from the cultivated valley floor to the highest ridges.

Belpark and the brown bear project

Castel Belfort

Val di Non
