Historia

Historia e Gorgo al Monticano

From the Morosini to the Foscarini Cornaro

Villa Revedin was built by the noble Venetian Morosini family around the mid-16th century, at a time when the great houses of the Serenissima were beginning to build country residences inland as a symbol of prestige and as a base for managing their agricultural properties. Toward the end of the 18th century the villa became the summer residence of the Foscarini Cornaro family, who hosted important figures from across Europe there, consolidating its role as a place of representation. After the fall of the Republic of Venice, the property passed to the Revedin counts, who gave the villa its current name and dedicated themselves to agriculture, introducing modern and innovative methods for the time, contributing to the agricultural development of the surrounding territory.

The centuries-old park and the ancient ice house

The park surrounding Villa Revedin is one of the complex's most striking features: majestic centuries-old trees and lush plants offer dozens of scenic corners, crossed by characteristic gravel avenues leading to the heart of the park, where a large balustraded fountain stands. Among the most curious features is the ancient ice house, a structure once used to preserve natural ice, now restored and transformed into a refined event space. Inside this brick, iron, wood and glass structure is now housed the villa's enoteca, with indoor and outdoor spaces dedicated to wine tastings and small private celebrations.

From noble residence to charming hospitality

In the 1970s, following a careful restoration by the current owners, Villa Revedin was transformed into a prestigious hotel-restaurant, a role it still holds today. The property now offers a refined countryside atmosphere, with views over the historic park guaranteeing a relaxing experience away from city rhythms, while remaining a short distance from Oderzo and the main towns of the Marca Trevigiana. It is one of the area's most sought-after venues for weddings and events, able to combine the charm of Venetian history with contemporary hospitality service, without losing the authentic character of the original residence.

The Monticano river and the farmed countryside

Beyond the villa, Gorgo al Monticano is a municipality whose identity remains deeply agricultural: the Monticano river, which gives the town its name, crosses a territory of cultivated fields, irrigation ditches and small rural clusters typical of the Treviso plain. It is fair to be honest about this: do not expect a historic center rich in monuments beyond the villa, because the life of the municipality revolves around fieldwork and farming-related activities, in a simple but well-kept landscape. It is precisely this rural concreteness that makes Gorgo al Monticano a good example of that less-told, yet equally authentic, Veneto countryside stretching between the Piave and the Livenza.

Between Oderzo and the Marca Trevigiana

Gorgo al Monticano's position, a short distance from Oderzo, an important historic center of Roman origin with its archaeological museum and well-preserved town center, makes it a complementary stop for those staying in this part of the Marca Trevigiana. The country roads linking the municipality to nearby towns offer routes suited to relaxed cycle tourism, among vine rows, crops and minor waterways, in an area still little touched by mass tourism. For those seeking a charming stay in a historic villa combined with discovering the authentic Treviso countryside, Gorgo al Monticano represents a balanced and accessible base.
