Andalo, gem of the Altopiano della Paganella
Andalo lies on the Altopiano della Paganella, a broad mountain plateau in the heart of Trentino, surrounded by conifer woods and meadows that offer sweeping views in every season. Together with Fai della Paganella and Molveno, the village forms a tourist area known for balancing authentic mountain life with visitor-friendly services. Just a few kilometres from Trento, Andalo is easy to reach while remaining immersed in a high-altitude natural setting, ideal for those seeking clean air, a slower pace and outdoor activities. The plateau is also known for its strong commitment to sustainable tourism, with initiatives dedicated to soft mobility and the protection of the alpine landscape, factors that over the years have helped make Andalo one of the leading destinations for mountain tourism in Trentino.
The Paganella and the UNESCO Dolomiti di Brenta
The landscape around Andalo is dominated by the Paganella massif, the iconic peak of the plateau that bears its name, whose distinctive profile offers spectacular panoramic views over the Adige valley, the Brenta Dolomites and much of Trentino. The Dolomiti di Brenta themselves, visible from many points on the plateau, were inscribed in 2009 on the UNESCO World Natural Heritage list as part of the serial Dolomites site, in recognition of the geological and scenic uniqueness of their spires and limestone walls. The Brenta group is one of the most beloved destinations for hikers and mountaineers, with trails, mountain huts and via ferrata routes that make this unique environment accessible even to those who do not practise technical climbing. Andalo's proximity to a landscape of such value makes the Altopiano della Paganella a privileged starting point for discovering one of the most fascinating and recognisable Dolomite groups in the world.
Skiing and winter on the Paganella ski area
In winter Andalo becomes one of Trentino's most popular ski destinations thanks to the Paganella ski area, which links the Andalo and Fai della Paganella lift systems into a single, extensive skiable domain suited to skiers of every level. The slopes, served by modern lift facilities, wind through woods and panoramic ridges, offering runs for beginners, families and expert skiers, as well as dedicated snowboarding areas. There is also an extensive network of cross-country trails, highly regarded for snow quality and the natural setting in which they run, alongside ski-mountaineering routes and snowshoe trails for those who wish to experience the winter mountains at a slower pace. The cold season in Andalo is further enlivened by events, ski schools and family services, making the Altopiano della Paganella a complete winter destination that combines sport, nature and enjoyment.
Lago di Andalo, Life Park and family activities
In the warmer months Andalo becomes an ideal destination for families, starting with the small Lago di Andalo, a lake set among greenery, perfect for a relaxing walk or a shaded break. Not far away is the Andalo Life Park, an amusement park designed for adults and children alike, which also includes Acquain, the park's water area with pools and water games ideal for the hottest days. Adventure parks, mountain-bike trails, play areas and a wide range of hiking options suitable even for children complete the offer, allowing visitors to explore the Altopiano della Paganella on foot or by bike along routes of varying difficulty. This combination of nature, fun and organised services has made Andalo one of the most popular summer destinations in Trentino for families travelling with children.
Lago di Molveno and the Parco Naturale Adamello-Brenta
A few minutes from Andalo lies Lago di Molveno, often listed among the most beautiful lakes in Italy for its clear waters framed by the Dolomiti di Brenta, a perfect destination for a day trip, a swim or a walk along its well-equipped shores. The whole area is part of the Parco Naturale Adamello-Brenta, the largest nature park in Trentino, established to protect a territory of extraordinary environmental variety ranging from valley-floor woodlands to high dolomitic peaks. Within the park runs a dense network of hiking trails and via ferrata routes leading to mountain huts, alpine lakes and panoramic viewpoints over the Brenta spires, suitable for both casual walkers and more experienced mountaineers. Thanks to this proximity, Andalo proves to be an ideal base for organising excursions of every level in the heart of the Dolomiti di Brenta and the Adamello-Brenta park, without giving up the comforts of a well-organised tourist destination.
